چکیده

Background Post-operative rehabilitation of the elbow following a stable fracture, surgical release or manipulation under anesthesia consists of a period of passive motion (PM) to prevent adhesions, the detrimental effects of immobilization, reduce pain, reduce inflammation and increase range of motion to a functional level. Continuous passive motion (CPM) devices have been used routinely as a PM modality.

Elbow CPM Following a Stable Intra-Articular Fracture

CPM after a stable fracture has been used extensively in the elbow.9,19,20,21,22,28,30,43,46,48 The initial goal of therapy following a stable fracture is to maintain the range-of-motion. If passive motion is not started within the first 48 hours the prognosis for improvement is significantly diminished.10 O’Driscoll and Giori36 have demonstrated that CPM immediately following a surgical proced...

Mechanical Simulation of the Extension and Flexion of the Elbow Joint in Rehabilitation

Objective: The goal of the present study was to improve the extension and flexion of the elbow joint for rehabilitation purposes, in terms of energy dissipation and of injuries caused by stress imposed on connective tissue by exercise equipments during force transfer , by investigation of viscoelastic property variations during change in speed of motion. Materials & Methods: A sample of five...

Continuous passive motion and physical therapy (CPM) versus physical therapy (PT) versus delayed physical therapy (DPT) after surgical release for elbow contractures; a study protocol for a prospective randomized controlled trial

BACKGROUND The elbow is prone to stiffness after trauma. To regain functional elbow motion several conservative- and surgical treatment options are available. Conservative treatment includes physical therapy, intra-articular injections with corticosteroids and a static progressive or dynamic splinting program. If conservative treatment fails, an operative release of the posttraumatic stiff elbo...

Early Regain of Function and Proprioceptive Improvement Following Knee Arthroplasty

Background: Techniques that allow early muscle activation, such as closed kinetic chain (CKC) and open kineticchain (OKC) exercises, may play a beneficial role in the early rehabilitation of the reconstructed knee. However, current rehabilitation regimens have not been shown to reverse post-operative quadriceps activation failureand weakness. To investigate whether patients who use a continuous ...
